Potatoes are an incredibly popular food product worldwide. How to cook potatoes correctly? Discover simple tips on how to boil potatoes!

Potatoes are an incredibly popular species of plant belonging to the nightshade family. There are many varieties of edible potatoes, which can be divided into three main types, namely general-purpose, waxy (often used in salads), and starchy. There are also mixed culinary types.
Potatoes should be properly prepared before consumption. The cooking time varies depending on the variety, maturity, size, and intended use, but it typically ranges from 10 to 30 minutes. Depending on the preparation, potatoes can be firm and easy to slice or mash or even crumble apart. Potatoes can serve as both the main component of dishes and an accompaniment, for example, in soups or salads. They taste great with sauces, meat, vegetables, cheeses, and can even be prepared sweetly.
Potatoes are a source of carbohydrates, fiber, potassium, zinc, B vitamins, manganese, vitamin C, copper, magnesium, and iodine, among others.

Step 2: In a pot, bring water to a boil at a ratio of 3:1 – water to potatoes (there should be enough water to ensure all potatoes are fully submerged). After a moment, add a pinch of salt (about 1/3-1/2 teaspoon). Carefully add the potatoes and cover the pot with a lid. Once boiling, reduce the heat so that the potatoes are simmering gently. Cook the potatoes for about 10-30 minutes (depending on the type and size of the potatoes – the older and larger the potatoes, the longer they require cooking). Near the end, check with a sharp knife to see if the potatoes are cooked. If the knife goes in smoothly, it’s a sign to drain the potatoes.
