Pasta is an extremely popular food product worldwide. How to cook pasta correctly? Discover simple tips on how to cook pasta!

Pasta is an incredibly popular product made from flour, water, and sometimes eggs. It comes in various shapes and sizes, such as tubes, ribbons, screws, threads, or bows.
The basic ingredient for pasta production is semolina (a flour or grit made from durum wheat) or pasta flour (a flour that contains significantly more gluten than bread-making flour).
Pasta needs to be properly prepared before consumption. The cooking time varies depending on the type of pasta, but it typically ranges from 3 to 12 minutes. Properly cooked pasta should offer a slight resistance when bitten, meaning it should be al dente. However, if you prefer melt-in-the-mouth pasta, extend the cooking time by 1 or even several minutes to suit your preferences.
Only starchy (Chinese) pastas do not require prior thermal processing. Pasta can be both the base of dishes and an addition, for example, to soups or salads. They taste great with sauces, meat, vegetables, cheeses, and various sweet toppings.
Pasta is a source of carbohydrates, proteins, B vitamins, zinc, copper, magnesium, and iron, among other nutrients. However, the content of vitamins and minerals is significantly higher in whole grain pastas.

How to cook pasta?

Step 1: Pour water into a large and tall pot – the amount should be in the ratio of approximately 1 liter for every 100 g of dry pasta. After a moment, add some salt (about 1 teaspoon for each liter of water). Bring to a boil. Then add the pasta. During the first few minutes, stir quite frequently to ensure that the pasta doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pot. Afterward, reduce the heat slightly and stir occasionally. Depending on its size and type, cook the pasta for anywhere between 3 to 12 minutes – fresh or dry pasta, especially those containing eggs and smaller ones (like vermicelli or ravioli) are usually cooked for about 3-5 minutes; eggless, dry, and slightly larger ones (like fusilli or shells) around 6-9 minutes; and thicker ones (like penne or farfalle) for about 9-12 minutes. Before draining, remove a piece to check if it’s cooked to your liking.
